For some businesses, they do not always have the need for an actual website for their business. However, as more and more people rely upon Google to find local businesses selling the products and services they want, it is still important to develop online marketing strategies to attract new customers.

There are several ways in which a business can do this:

  1. Create a business page on social media sites. Most social media platforms will allow you to do this for free, so this is a great marketing tool. Make sure to include a bit of information about your business, like its hours, phone number, and address. It also helps to use pictures and videos, where applicable. Depending on your actual business, you may want to set up pages on two or three different social media platforms.
  2. Register your business with Google+. Google allows businesses to register for free. Just make sure to fill out as much information about the business as possible in each requested field. In addition, verify the business name, address and phone are accurate and the same as the one used on any social media pages.
  3. Claim and register your business on one or two local review sites.Again, most sites allow you to do this for free. You will want to verify all of the business information is accurate, as well as confirm consistent name, address, and phone number information used on Google+ and your social media pages.
  4. Publish your business in online directories, like Yellowpages.com. Online directory sites can be used further establish your presence online. Remember to use the same business name, address and phone number you used on the other sites.

It is highly recommended to use all of the above methods together to build an effective online presence. If you only use one or two, establishing your rankings on search engine results pages (SERPs) will take longer.

How Do These Methods Help Build Your Online Presence?

Each of these methods allows Google to crawl and index the various sites to learn more about your business, as well as your products, services, location, and industry segment. Once Google has compiled this information, it will display your business on SERPs whenever it is relevant to the search being conducted.

For example, you own and operate a lawn care, pool, and snow plowing service business in Brampton. Because your business is local, you decide you do not need an actual website. However, you do create a Facebook page and a Pinterest page. You also register your business on Google+ and Yelp.

Now, whenever someone enters in a search for lawn care, pool cleaning, or snow plowing services in Brampton, your business is displayed in the search results near the top of the page. As you can see from this example, just because your business might be local and you may not require an actual website, it is still important to build a strong online presence using other effective SEO marketing tools.
