1. The Internet is the primary source used by consumers to find local businesses.

2. Nine out of every ten consumers conducts local searches.

According to a 2014 Google study, at that time roughly 80% of people used their smartphones to conduct local searches, and as of today, this number has continued to grow, and is estimated to now be around 90%.

3. More than half of mobile local searches will translate to actual store visits.

Google’s research into local searches and how people use them has established that more than half of the people, who found a local business through a search will stop by within 24 hours of finding that business, and roughly about a third of the time it is within a matter of hours.

4. One out of every three consumers will make a purchase after conducting a local search.

Out of the group of consumers that actually visit businesses after conducting local searches, about a third of them will make a purchase once they visit the business. The other two-thirds are either comparing prices or are still in the early stages of making a purchasing decision.

5. Over half of the people searching for local businesses want specific information.

The three pieces of information consumers want the most are:

  • Store Hours
  • Store Address
  • Directions to the Store

6. Over fifty percent of local searches are conducted while people are on the go.

This stat matters because it lets you know there are people out there searching locally, every day, quite possibly for the products and/or services your business sells.
